Australia is sending spies and special forces troops to Turkey amid fears Australians attending the centenary of the ANZAC landings at Gallipoli will be targeted by terrorists.
The Daily Telegraph reports teams have gone to Turkey in recent weeks - some looking into an evacuation plan.
An intelligence source also told the Telegraph there are concerns Australians seeking to join the Islamic State could use the Anzac Day pilgrimage as a cover to slip through the net.
Australian Prime Minister Tony Abbott has said that it's important to ensure security is tight at the centenary commemorations.
"This is a very important commemorative event. It's the biggest commemorative event that we've ever really had. The Gallipoli landing was in an important sense the birth of our nation."
"It is a very dangerous place. Do not go to the Middle East if you are up to no good, because if you are up to no good, no good may find you."
The New Zealand Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade is refusing to comment on any of New Zealand's security preparations for the event.
A spokesperson said that for security reasons it won't discuss the preparations, but said it was satisfied with the Turkish government's security arrangements.
New Zealanders travelling to Turkey for the ANZAC commemorations are encouraged to register their details on SafeTravel.
