UPDATED 9:58am: Kapiti train commuters are being warned to expect significant delays after a small fire on a freight train.
The train came to a stop earlier this morning on the tracks in Paekakariki, just south of the Fisherman's Table restaurant.
All services on the Kapiti Line north of Pukerua Bay were suspended as fire fighters worked to move the train.
Fire shift commander Murray Dunbar says the train has been moved back to the railway station where they're continuing to extinguish the second locomotive.
Services on the Kapiti Line have resumed, although commuters can expect delays.
Police are directing cars over the rail crossing while the situation is dealt with. A spokesman says all traffic should take extreme care through the area.
