Tranz Metro services are starting to resume this afternoon as work continues on the network following yesterday’s weather event.
Train services are now running on the Johnsonville Line on a half hourly timetable with the first trains operating at 1.30pm and bus replacements are being provided for passengers on the Hutt and Kapiti Lines on a half hourly timetable. No services will run on the Melling Line.
On the Wairarapa line, the 3.40pm service from Masterton to Wellington, and the 5.30pm service from Wellington to Masterton will be bus replaced. All other Wairarapa services are cancelled for today.
Work is likely to continue into the weekend to clear the landslip on Coast Road near Paekakariki and to also clear flood debris from the subway at Porirua Station and this will mean further disruption to the Kapiti Line.
Getting the rail network back up and running is a time consuming and complex job especially when our track and electrical componentry at numerous sites are affected. It is paramount that it safe to resume services at all times.
Our staff have also been inspecting and repairing areas where there has been scouring of land under and near tracks and clearing debris on the tracks. We are also working to reposition our trains that where stopped due to the bad weather yesterday and scheduling our staff to ensure the safe running of services.
Tranz Metro will provide updates on when train services are able to operate on network this afternoon and our customers are advised to check their text and email alerts, Twitter, or www.tranzmetro.co.nz.
