The Government is under fire for what National believes is another broken promise.
The role of Regional Commissioner for Social Development for Nelson, Marlborough, Tasman, and the West Coast has been added to the current Wellington Regional Commissioner's job.
Local opposition MP's are upset because they feel this decision will result in a less responsive service in the affected areas.
National MP Maureen Pugh says she needs to fight the decision, or the Government will withdraw more services from the region.
"Do they have any idea about the geography that they are dealing with and the distances? We need personal relationships with people in those positions."
She says this decision is a blow to the regions.
"This news that the regional commissioner can manage an area from Wellington, Nelson, Marlborough, Tasman and the West Coast is absolutely outrageous."
