Victims of car thefts are questioning why Wellington police aren't putting more numbers behind its crack car squad.
Police are dealing with as many as 50 thefts from vehicles in the city a week.
Crime statistics from last year show only 9% of these crimes are solved in the capital.
A squad of four officers will now work to prevent car thefts and break-ins, as well as identify organised crime groups.
Those on the Stolen Cars Wellington facebook page - dedicated to help victims get back their vehicles - say four officers won't be enough, but think it's about time police focused on car thefts.
