It's a good thing whales aren't bothered by rain, because neither were this morning's whale watchers in Kaikoura.
Despite wet conditions, the weather was good enough for Kaikoura Whale Watch to send out its first boat in 7 weeks.
Their operations were halted after the 7.8 magnitude earthquake which altered the landscape and seabed around Kaikoura.
Media manager Lisa Bond was on the trip.
"We had a bit of a drizzly start to the day but it didn't dampen the spirits of people...don't know where summers gone but its okay, we happened to get out there and have a good time so that was the main thing."
