A scooter rider has been critically injured following a serious crash with a car in Christchurch.
Emergency services rushed to the intersection of Queen Elizabeth II Dr and Travis Rd in Burwood shortly after 1pm.
“Initial indications are there have been serious injuries,” a police spokesperson said.
Hato Hone St John said three ambulances, a rapid response vehicle and an operations manager attended the scene and one patient was being transported to Christchurch Hospital in a critical condition.
Police said the road has been closed and diversions were in place. Motorists and members of the public were asked to avoid the area if possible.
Images from the scene show an electric scooter under the front wheel of a HealthCare New Zealand-branded car.
Healthcare NZ said it is unable to comment as it is a current investigation.
