Fans of the late Norm Berryman are calling for a tribute to the Northland rugby legend.

Just hours after news of the 42-year-old's sudden death, a Whangarei man started up a Facebook page calling for the terraces at Toll Stadium to be named after him, and it's since received over 4,000 likes.

Patrick Moon created the page as he felt it was important to immortalise his influence on the community.

Judging by the numbers he reports it's obvious others agree.

"The support has just been outrageous. It's not just local, it;s all around the world. We've got people in Australia, in England that have liked the page. The support has been absolutely amazing. It's quite humbling."

Moon believes what better way to honour him than at the stadium where he made a name for himself.

"Growing up I idolised Norm Berryman. He's just one of those household names that was prominent when he played rugby for the Taniwha and I just thought it would be important for his legacy to be remembered somehow."

Berryman passed away in Australia from on Tuesday aged just 42.
