Emergency flood mitigation works are well underway in the Waimakariri district after severe flooding in June.

On the June 10 and June 11, the region experienced a third of its annual rainfall.

The Waimakariri District Council allocated $4 million towards urgent works in the region.

The are due to be completed by winter next year.

The council will consider adding an extra $17.3 million in its draft long term plan next for flooding works.
