The Black Ferns Sevens and All Blacks have both marched into the Cape Town Sevens semifinals with huge thrashings of their quarter-final opponents.

The Black Ferns Sevens set up a semifinal with Ireland following a 50-5 drubbing of Canada, while their male counterparts matched them with a 50-0 win over surprise opponents Uruguay.

Canada held a 5-0 lead before Jazmin Felix-Hotham and Michaela Blyde both scored doubles while Kelly Brazier, Jorja Miller, Manaia Nuku and Risi Pouri-Lane all scored for New Zealand. They will face Ireland in tonight’s semifinals after they defeated France 12-10. In the other semifinal, USA face Australia.

The Black Ferns Sevens earlier topped their group following wins over Great Britain, Brazil and Fiji.

The All Blacks Sevens also ended up topping their group despite a shock opening day loss to Spain. It set up a clash with Uruguay who made the quarter-finals after beating Ireland and Japan in pool play.

However they were no match for New Zealand. Moses Leo scored a first-half hat-trick and Caleb Tangitau grabbed a brace while Che Clarke and Roderick Solo crossed over late to bring up the fifty. They will face either Samoa for a spot in the final.
