Former Black Caps opener Finn Allen was involved in a near-Mankad controversy during a Big Bash clash last night.
Playing for the Perth Scorchers, Allen was given a warning by Adelaide Strikers bowler Jamie Overton for backing up too much – and it didn’t go down well.
The Englishman ran in and broke the stumps before completing his delivery. He began to walk back to his mark without appealing and told the umpire it was a warning for the Kiwi.
Overton then pointed at Allen before his next delivery which led to a few words between the two.
“He did say to the umpire, no that’s the warning,” commentator Brad Haddin said on Fox Cricket.
“I think that confrontation with Allen has got under his skin. He’s a competitor Overton.”
Cooper Connolly was at the striker’s end and hit the next ball for six as Overton went for 27 runs from his two overs.
Allen finished with 50 from 23 balls as his Perth side went on to chase down Adelaide’s target of 143 with more than five overs to spare for a seven-wicket win.
