Updated 4:49Â The owners of Lower Hutt's Queensgate Mall have been ordered to urgently demolish an entire building in the complex.
Diversified NZ Property Trust has been told by Hutt City Council to take any necessary action to remove the whole of the building, located at the northeast corner of the Centre.
Stride Investment Management Limited manage the mall, and Chief Executive Peter Alexander said they have already had engineers looking at it.
"We'll have a plan in place by Monday night and work will start as soon as practical."
"We've obviously got to get machinery and other things, but we will get started, I'd say next week."
Hutt City Council on Thursday issued a notice saying the building was dangerous following last week's 7.8 quake.
A contractor has been appointed to carry out the work with urgency and is already on site.
The building is one of 13 in the Lower Hutt shopping complex, and comprises the Event cinema and 300 carparks underneath.
More than 80 retailers are trading at the mall on Friday.
