Prime Minister Christopher Luxon has unveiled the Government’s first action plan for 2025 including further details about the upcoming global investment summit.

A key focus of Luxon’s 40-point action plan is economic growth and cost of living relief.

Luxon will be joined by Infrastructure Minister Chris Bishop in a post-Cabinet press conference expected to start at 4pm. It will be live-streamed at the top of this article.

The plan includes launching the 2025 economic growth plan, reforming the science and innovation system and passing legislation to remove barriers to overseas investment in “build-to-rent” housing.
The plan also covers further measures in law and order and improved public services.

The Government is holding a global investment summit on March 13 and 14. Luxon has also already announced plans for a “one stop shop” agency solely focused on attracting overseas investors, called Investment New Zealand.

It is also possible the Prime Minister could reveal today the first action plan for the year. We are almost half way through the quarter and the Government is yet to release its quarterly plan.

Luxon’s address comes ahead of the expected release of the 1News Verian poll around 6pm today.

Today, a new Taxpayers’ Union-Curia poll found the centre-left bloc could form a Government if an election was held now – for first time in almost two years.

The poll was conducted between February 2-4 and had National up 2.3 points to 31.9% and Labour up 0.4 points from last month to 31.3%.

The Greens are up 3.7 points to 13.2%, while the Act Party is down 0.8 points to 10%. New Zealand First is down 1.7 points to 6.4% as well as Te Pāti Māori,

The Taxpayers’ Union said although National is up one seat to 39 – and Labour remain on 39 – the centre right bloc overall has lost 3 seats (59) compared to the centre-left bloc’s 61.

This week Luxon defended his choice not to visit Waitangi for the country’s national day. Instead, Luxon spent the day at Ōnuku Marae near Akaroa in Canterbury with Ngāi Tahu.

“I’ve always had a view that I want to go around the country where the Treaty was signed.”

He said while he may travel in future he does not want the day to be “dominated” by the historic site.

The Government was represented at Waitangi by Act leader David Seymour and other senior Ministers and party leaders, including Winston Peters, Shane Jones, Tama Potaka, Shane Reti, Paul Goldsmith and Erica Stanford.
