The Police Commissioner is being accused of talking nonsense, after saying police have enough resources.

Mike Bush made the comment to a Parliament select committee yesterday.

But Labour's police spokesperson Stuart Nash said that doesn't line up with a survey from the Police Association which finds 86% of staff think the force is under-resourced.

"Every single frontline officer that I have ever met, they love their job, they're passionate about their communities, they want to do a really good job, so these aren't people who sit around and whinge and moan."

Nash said if officers felt ignored by the top brass "what then happens it that officers start thinking they can't keep working this way and they leave. I think the culture in the Police at the moment is in a bit of a perilous situation."

New Zealand First leader Winston Peters said if resourcing is fine, the Commissioner needs to explain why police numbers are dropping.

"In 2009 and since they're capping the Police resource, capping the funding of Police, and a dramatic falling in the numbers."
