The New Zealand First Party is renewing its push to get prostitutes off city streets.
MP Tracey Martin has drafted legislation that would ban sex workers from conducting their business on streets or public places, saying all prostitution activities should be restricted to licensed brothels, owner-operated brothels, and private premises.
She believes its about improving safety.
"One of the reasons I got into politics was the fact that I was so annoyed that there weren't enough protections put inside the original legislation for prostitutes, for sex workers," Ms Martin said.
"So this gives me an opportunity to put in some of those protections I think should have been discussed back then."
But Prostitutes' Collective national co-ordinator Catherine Healy said parliament voted on the matter earlier this year, after a similar bill made a decade-long passage through parliament.
"They decided enough parliamentary time had been spent on this issue and that the councils themselves could sort this issue out on a regional level, not the parliament itself."
