It's Phil Goff's first day in his new Auckland mayoral office.
He arrived just before nine, and shook the hand of Auckland Council chief executive Stephen Town before heading upstairs to his new workplace.
"I have got on my list of things to do to contact 20 councillors today, so it's going to be a fairly hectic day."
However there's no hint yet on who'll be Deputy Mayor.
"Lot's of ideas. Haven't made the decision and there are a number of people who could quite capably carry out the functions of that office but I need to talk to all of my councillors first."
The new mayor is still to yet to get advice and a formal handover from outgoing mayor Len Brown.
Goff said he understands Mr Brown is away with his family having a break, but he hopes when he returns he'll get an exit briefing from him.
He said it's standard procedure in central Government for an outgoing minister to brief an incoming one, and believes the same applies here.
