Labour has slumped even further in the polls, so far that leader Andrew Little admits he "thought about" stepping down before the election.

The latest Colmar Brunton poll has the Labour Party on 24 percent, three points lower than the last poll and the lowest since the poll began in 1995.

Mr Little told 1 NEWS he spoke with senior colleagues about stepping down, but was encouraged to stay on.

"They said we want you in the fight," he said.

With the support of the Greens, who rose by four percent in the latest poll to 15, and New Zealand First, who stand at 11 percent, Labour could still technically form a Government.

Meanwhile, the poll shows National remaining steady on 47 percent, with Gareth Morgan's Opportunities Party the highest of the minor parties, at two percent.

On the preferred Prime Minister front, the poll has Bill English up two points to 28 percent, with Winston Peters in second at 10 percent.

Andrew Little and his deputy Jacinda Ardern are both polling at six percent.
