Labour is continuing its fight against charter schools, this time, to make them more transparent.
The party's bill to make the schools subject to the Official Information Act was drawn from the ballot yesterday.
Bill sponsor Nanaia Mahuta said it's clear charter schools aren't on a level playing field with public schools.
Mahuta said state schools have to be transparent, and when charter schools get Government money, they should have the same rules.
"They get paid more, they're able to have conditions of operation that aren't the same as public schools, and it should be the same. They're receiving taxpayer money.
"They're responsible for educating kids, to some extent in the same capacity as our public school system, yet they don't have the same rules that apply."
But ACT leader David Seymour said charter schools are already transparent, and this is an attempt to weaken them.
"[Charter schools will] spend all their time answering vexatious OIA requests from teacher unions, rather than trying to educate their mokopuna."
"This is desperate stuff from Labour. It's the third private member's Bill that they've had drawn to attack the partnership schools in two years. They keep losing."
