Labour concerned about new Serco projects

Sort out corrections issues before you move on to new projects.

That's the call from the Labour party after Serco's CEO signalled the company is looking into new opportunities in New Zealand.

The UK-based service company has signalled its interest in operating rail in Auckland, and there's speculation it may be interested in managing social housing.

Labour's corrections spokesperson Kelvin Davis said he has little faith in Serco after seeing their results in New Zealand so far.

"My concern about Serco is the shortcuts they take to create profit and I'm sure that's what they'll do in other areas as well."

He said Serco should focus on addressing the issues its currently facing before starting new projects.

"From what I've seen around the prison debacle, I just wouldn't trust them to run anything else."
