Incumbent Taupo mayor David Trewavas has been elected to stay in his role for another three years after a landslide victory.
Mr Trewavas won by more than 5500 votes over his closest rival Christine Rankin.
It will be Mr Trewavas' second term as mayor.
He said he is very humbled with the opportunity to continue on with the great work that has been achieved in the last three years.
Mr Trewavas says he is also excited about the opportunity ahead and looks forward to serving Taupo for the next three years.
Despite the large margin he had strong competition this year and definitely felt some political anxiety leading up to today, he said.
"You always do. You never taken it for granted. It was a tough old campaign so it was good to get it across the line."
