Labour's support parties say the latest poll results aren't a sign the honeymoon is over.

The 1News/Colmar Brunton poll saw Labour drop five points to 43 percent - going below National, who went up one point to 44 percent.

But New Zealand First is back in the threshold on five percent, and the Greens are up one to six percent.

Greens co-leader James Shaw says he rejects the idea that these results are a reflection of a tough few weeks for the Government.

" I'd say that's absolute nonsense. we are 10 points ahead if the opposition, they moved up one point, that is hardly turning the tide around."

On the other side of the aisle, the opposition leader admits he's got some work to do to raise his profile.

The poll since Simon Bridges took the reins of the National Party saw him receive just 10 percent in the preferred Prime Minister stakes.

Bridges says he's pretty encouraged by this result after being in the job barely a month.

"I've got a lot of work to do to ensure people get to know me and understand my leadership of the opposition that my credentials i hope to be a viable alternative as Prime Minister of New Zealand."
