Scrapping the Super City may not be the answer to Auckland Council's woes.

The Conservatives' Christine Rankin has called for de-amalgamation at a meeting of her Upper Harbour local board.

But Rodney local board's Brenda Steele says a better answer is scaling back bureaucracy.

"If we can identify those things, Auckland Council has the potential to be a user-friendly beast."

Brenda Steele says the super council allows more to be done for less.
