A World War One memorial plaque has been stolen from a headstone in central Otago.
The bronze plaque is engraved with the name Samuel Corrigall.
It was taken from the Omakau Cemetery sometime in the last three days.
It features a Lion.
Senior Constable Darren Cox said it's a reprehensible act.
He said the significance of the plaque to the family is huge, and the upset has caused a lot of distress.
Anyone with information is asked to contact Omakau Police.
Police would like to hear from anyone who may have any information which will help to reunite this plaque with the family and we encourage them to contact the Omakau Police on (03) 440 2190.
Alternatively, information can be provided anonymously via the organisation Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
