WorkSafe New Zealand's warning employers young people are most at risk when using machinery in the workplace.
The reminder comes as Mitre 10 MEGA in Glenfield's been ordered to pay nearly $60,000, after an employee lost two fingers in an accident with a saw.
Chief inspector, Keith Stewart, says the 16-year-old should've been better trained.
"We believe that is a step the company could have taken, that they should have had a much better system for training operators so they would recognise the hazards of this particular machine."
