UPDATED: 7.14pm The name of a woman who was killed in an Upper Hutt house has been released.
She was 30-year-old Lois Rita Tolley.
Ms Tolley was found dead in her Ward Street home in Trentham early yesterday morning.
Detective Senior Sergeant Warwick McKee said they're continuing a scene examination at the house.
"At this time I can confirm that we are seeking a knife and a firearm that was used in the killing of Lois" he said.Â
Police have been searching for a group of three or four men who were heard yelling and seen running away from the house.
One of the young men was described as particularly distressed and one was carrying a long rectangular object.
They are all described as about 182cm tall and wearing dark clothing, with hooded tops.
Police are calling for the men to come forward, and say good progress is being made in the investigation.
"This is an incredibly sad and stressful time for the family, who police are supporting through an incredibly difficult time so close to Christmas," Det Sen Sgt Mckee said.
Many of Ms Tolley's family live in Australia, while she lived alone.
Ms Tolley is the youngest of four children and has a number of nieces and nephews.
"The family are devastated by this act of violence that has taken their much loved Lois from them," he said.
