Wholesale All Black changes include new captain Cane

The All Blacks have made wholesale changes for their second pool game at the Rugby World Cup.

But the numbers suggest it's far from inexperienced.

With the exception of Whitelock, Savea and Milner-Skudder, this starting fifteen is full of second choice players but still has 401 caps worth of experience.

To put that in perspective, England's strongest side for the tournament opener only had 43 caps more.

But it's the All Blacks bench numbers that are flat out ridiculous.

The five forward reserves of Mealamu, Crockett, Woodcock, McCaw and Read total 505 caps between them, more than the starting side.

Add in the backs reserves and there 660 caps on the All Black bench.

Sam Cane will become the fifth youngest All Black captain when he leads the side against Namibia, at 23.

He said his mum and dad were at the game against Argentina and they caught up for breakfast this morning so he could tell them in person.

He admits when coach Steve Hansen approached him, he was just hoping to get another game.

Cane said Hansen told him he would be starting and also be captain and he was taken back a bit but extremely honoured.

The full side is Ben Franks, Taylor, Faumuina, Romano, Whitelock, Messam, Cane (c), Vito, Perenara, Barrett, Savea, Williams, Fekitoa, Milner-Skudder and Slade.

The reserves are Mealamu, Crockett, Woodcock, Read, McCaw, Kerr-Barlow, Nonu and Ben Smith.
