The Wellington Emergency Management team is pleased Wellingtonians are getting better prepared for another earthquake.

People are scrambling to get hold of 200 litre water storage tanks.

The small $105, 200L tanks are sold out, and you can only get them by going on a waiting list via your local council.

WREMO's Community Resilience Manager Dan Neely said it shows people are making sure their households and businesses are prepared.

He said it's the number one thing they ask people to do, to recognise they are responsible for their own preparedness.

Neely said the supplier of the tanks have had to double their production to keep up with demand.

He said they've been really popular since the earthquake, nearly one thousand have been sold in the past two weeks.
