A new ambulance has arrived for Wellington just in time for Christmas.
Wellington Free Ambulance has secured three new ambulances this year and they're aiming to get three more by the end of June.
Chief Executive Diana Crossan said the vehicles only last about four years because of Wellington's hilly typography and the way they have to be driven in emergency situations.
"The stop-starting and the way they have to be driven means that it's pretty tough on the old chassis, so of course we do have ones that have been on the road for longer than that, but our aim would be to turn them over in that time."
She said the new ambulance will be especially helpful as paramedics gear up for a busy New Year.
"The timing's perfect of course, because we need new ambulances all the time, but at Christmas it's really good to get one."
