UPDATED 12:06am:Â Police have released the names of all three climbers missing on Mt Cook.
Australian Doctor Michael Bishop, 53, German Raphael Viellehner, 58, and his son Johann, 27, failed to return from their climb on Monday.
Michael Bishop is an experienced mountaineer who had previously climbed in the Mount Cook National Park, while Johann has previously climbed in Europe and Russia.
The search for the climbing party has been put on hold due to bad weather.Â
Senior Constable Brent Swanson says it's not just the weather which is raising concerns for their safety, with crevasses also posing a threat.
"In the snow, bridges that cross the crevasses this time of year sometimes can be weakened, and that can be a bit of a concern for us
Senior Constable Swanson says contact with the missing men's families is still an ongoing process.
