Auckland University staff will rally for a pay increase next week.
Academics and professional employees argue it's time vice-Chancellor Stuart McCutcheon negotiated pay increases with them like all other universities do.
Tertiary Education Union organiser Enzo Giordani said they are still waiting to hear back about a pay claim they made earlier this year.
"It happens with most other employers" he said. "There are very few employers that will go into collective bargaining with the union and say the will not talk about pay."
"This is the core purpose of collective bargaining, to talk about pay."
The rally is set to be held at the University next Wednesday.
