Uber's Chief strategist David Plouffe, a former political strategist to Barack Obama, has spoken with transport minister Simon Bridges.
He says he's encouraged by the Government's approach.
The mobile app has been controversial around the world for allowing people to book unregistered low-cost taxis from their mobile phone.
David Plouffe says the New Zealand government is taking a fair and considered approach to regulation that will be watched around the world.
