Two people are dead after a road crash south of Hastings on Friday while one remained in hospital with serious injuries on Sunday.
Emergency services were called to the two-vehicle accident on State Highway 2, Poukawa, near Pekapeka wetlands, about 2.30pm.
“Two people sadly died at the scene,” a police spokesperson said.
A third person, a woman in her 70s, received critical injuries and was transported to hospital Hawke’s Bay Hospital and then transferred to Wellington in a critical condition on Friday night.
A Te Whatu Ora – Health New Zealand Coast and Hutt Valley spokeswoman said the woman was in ICU in a serious condition on Sunday afternoon.
A St John ambulance spokeswoman said two people were taken to Hawke’s Bay Hospital. One was in a critical condition and one had minor injuries.
“We responded with two ambulances, a rapid response vehicle and an operations manager.”
The stretch of SH2 was closed just south of Pakipaki down to Te Aute Trust Rd. Diversions were in place on SH50 on Friday.
“The Serious Crash Unit are in attendance, and inquiries into the circumstances of the crash are ongoing,” a police statement said.
Brookfields Rd crash: Four injured and power lines downed
Emergency services responded to a crash on Brookfields Rd on Saturday night which left four people injured, one seriously, and cut power to more than 100 homes.
A Unison spokesperson said 55 customers were still affected by the outage on Sunday morning, down from a total of 131 on Saturday night.
St John treated one person in a minor condition at the scene while one in a minor condition, one in a moderate condition, and one in a serious condition were assessed and treated at the scene, and transported to Hawke’s Bay Hospital.
People seriously injured in Pakowhai Rd crash now stable
Three others are in a stable condition at Hawke’s Bay Hospital after they were injured in a crash near Hastings on Thursday.
Pakowhai Rd was closed and traffic diverted as emergency services responded to the two-vehicle crash near the intersection with Ruahapia Rd about 12.40pm on Thursday.
A Te Whatu Ora – Health New Zealand, Hawke’s Bay spokeswoman said a woman in her 80s and a man in his 20s were in a stable condition on Sunday afternoon, after earlier being in a serious condition, while a man in his 50s remained in a stable condition.
