Two people are fighting for their lives in hospital after a serious incident in South Auckland overnight. 

A St John spokeswoman confirmed they were called to the area at 3.20am. 

Three ambulances, two rapid response units and an operations manager responded to the incident, she said. 

“Our ambulance officers treated and transported two patients in a critical condition to Auckland City Hospital.” 

Several police - including armed staff - and police vehicles are on a street in the suburb of Manurewa.

A large section of the road has been closed off by authorities and a scene guard is in place this morning. At least one armed officer was seen guarding the top of the street. 

The circumstances are not entirely clear and police have been approached for more details.
