A 3-year-old child has died after being struck by a vehicle on a driveway at a residential address in Gore, Southland.
A police spokesperson said the incident occurred about 6.30pm on New Year’s Day.
“The child died in Gore Hospital a short time later.
“Our thoughts are with the child’s family at this sad time.”
Following considerable work, including with the ESR at the scene, investigators were not treating the death suspicious, police said.
“The investigations team will continue to make enquiries on behalf of the Coroner.”
It comes after another child died on Christmas Day when they were struck by a vehicle in a Masterton driveway.
The fatal crash occurred on Atkinson St, Masterton, and was reported after 3.10pm, police said.
A witness told the Herald emergency services attended the scene, including Wellington Free Ambulance and a Westpac Rescue Helicopter, which didn’t land and left without a patient.
