Three people were injured in a serious crash near Te Anau overnight.

Police confirmed they were called to a crash on Manapouri Te Anau Highway at around 12am on Monday morning.

Two people were taken to hospital in a critical condition and one other person had moderate injuries.

Police said the road was closed following the crash while emergency services attended the scene.

NZTA described the crash as a “serious incident” and said SH95 was closed between the intersection with SH94 and Mount York Rd at 7.30am.

Police said they are making inquiries into the circumstances of the crash.
