The Hurunui District Mayor's urging people to be conservative with water, after the town ran dry last night.
Maintenance had to be done on the popular spot's water reservoir yesterday morning, after plastic bags and debris blocked it.
The water was shut off while the work was done.
Hurunui District Mayor Winton Dalley said it was a badly timed incident.
"During that period we've had some pretty horrendous temperatures up here and usage of water was obviously very high during the day. As a result the reservoir has dropped further which meant that some people lost their water or get very low pressures in the evening."
With soaring temperatures and peak holiday season, many residents ran out of water by the evening.
But Dalley said everything is back to normal today, and while the town can cope people need to be careful.
"We're in a seriously dry period across North Canterbury, low rainfall and extremely dry conditions."
"There's huge usage of water, and people need to be very careful so that we don't run in to a serious supply issue."
