There may be a light at the end of the tunnel for the country's struggling dairy industry, and it may be in the form of Sheep's milk.
Government owned Landcorp is joining forces with Agri-business investment company SLC group and venturing into a global dairy opportunity through Spring Sheep Dairy.
The opportunity involves trialling 3000 sheep products on Asian markets.
CEO of Spring Sheep Dairy Scottie Chapman said the trial will start in September and they'll spend around 4 years finding out what their consumers want before creating their brand.
He said if they get this right, they'll be able to both decide and hold the value in New Zealand "as opposed to just exporting the commodities where the value is sent offshore."
