A serious crash closed State Highway 11 at Haruru Falls in the Bay of Islands earlier today. 

Three people were injured, one critically.

A police spokesman said the fire service had cut three people from vehicles.

One is critical, one is in a serious condition and the third is moderately injured.

Emergency services were called to the crash at 10.20am.

He said the crash happened in a 100km/h zone near the Bay of Islands Holiday Park.

A witness said a white car was "side-swiped" from behind when it was turning into the holiday park.

She said four women were in the car, which was "written off".

The woman said a helicopter and ambulances were at the scene.
