A Wellington bar owner expects a crowd of people in to watch Namibia play Georgia at the Rugby World Cup.

Four Kings will now be allowed to open its doors for punters after Parliament passed legislation relaxing liquor laws for the Rugby World Cup yesterday evening.

The legislation, which will allow bars to have extended trading hours during Rugby World Cup games, was voted in by 99 votes to 21.

The Green Party, the Maori Party and five Labour MPs opposed the Bill.

Four Kings owner Matt McLaughlin is welcoming legislation allowing bars to open for all games at the tournament, instead of just All Black tests.

He claims people would go on benders before early morning games are rubbish.

"People are going to get up and they're going to come out and watch their team, support their team. They don't go out all night. It just doesn't happen."

Mr McLaughlin reports they'll be open for every game, even the ones involving minnow teams.

"Some games are better than others and some games you're only open for four or five people, but I think for us it's kind of one of those things where we just feel it's something that we should do and we want to do for our punters."
