There's some rough weather on the way for some parts of the country.

Metservice said there's a low coming and while it's depth and path is uncertain, eastern parts of the north island will cop the heaviest rain and snow above 800 metres.

Heavy rain's expected in Gisborne, Hawkes Bay, Taihape and Tongariro from Saturday till Monday, and Coromandel and the Bay of Plenty will also get wet weather.

Heavy snow's expected above three or four hundred metres in Southern and Eastern Marlborough, and gale force winds are likely over central parts of the country.
