A kakapo who's said to travel the country like a rock star is in Wellington.
Sirocco arrived in the capital yesterday. He'll be staying at Zealandia for the next six weeks, as an advocate for his critically endangered species.
Team leader for conservation at Zealandia Matu Booth says seeing the bird up close is a rare treat for visitors.
"When you actually see Sirocco in the flesh, all of the feathers that size, that bulk, the way he moves, it's just otherworldly."
Sirocco isn't a candidate for breeding, so Mr Booth said he has been put to other purposes.
"The story that is able to be told through the public seeing him is immense."
Matu Booth said after being hand raised as a chick - Sirocco thinks he's more human, than bird.
Wellingtonians wanting to see Sirocco for themselves can do so, with encounters running between the first of August, and September 13.
