As the start of the school year looms, there's a renewed push for strict nationwide speed limits outside schools.
New Zealand School Speeds its hopeful the new minister in charge of road safety, David Bennett, will listen to its pleas.
It wants a peak time speed limit of 30 km an hour, and a general limit of no more than 60 km an hour, outside all schools.
Spokeswoman Lucinda Rees said the former minister in charge of road safety Craig Foss didn't even respond when asked to support the push.
She said the limits are just common sense.
"Why can't we lead the way in this part of the world and reduce the road toll, because it would actually start to make people more aware of the vulnerable road user."
Ms Rees hopes Mr Bennett will not only respond, but also take action.
"I'd like them to stop putting out surveys and testing things and trying things out. I want them to actually put something in place to make roads safer for children rather than just talking about it. There's been talk and that's all."
