Police have released the name of the person who died in a serious crash involving a tour bus near Queenstown- Invercargill man Timothy Peter Herrick.

Twenty people were also injured in the collision, which was between a bus and two cars.

A police spokesperson said their thoughts were with the 36-year-old’s family and loved ones.

“Inquiries into the circumstances of the crash are ongoing.”

Police said earlier this week that at least two others were reported to have critical injuries.

The incident happened close to Kingston, near the intersection of State Highway 6 and Glen Nevis Station Road.

Images from the scene show seven rescue helicopters, and emergency services surrounding a bus. People could be seen being transported away on stretchers.

A witness told the Herald a car had gone head-on into a tourist bus with a trailer.

“The bus had rippled like a slinky.”
