An anti-misogyny "party" is being held in Auckland City tonight to protest against pro-rape group Return of Kings.
The "neomasculine" group called on supporters to hold 'tribal meetings' across 45 countries, including in New Zealand.
Leader Dayrush Valizadeh has since called them off, but a counter-protest at 7:30 this evening in Aotea Square will still go ahead.
Organiser John Palethorpe said misogyny extends further than just extreme groups, and it's a chance to send a clear message.
He said women get a lot of "crap" in New Zealand and this is an opportunity to bring people together to rally against that.
"When you see people using derogatory language towards women or dismissing women's claims about domestic violence, sexual harassment, you know, this stuff needs to stop.
"And funding organisations like White Ribbon would be great, or making sure all of our rape crisis foundations have enough money to operate."
