Protesters disrupted Auckland's Gay Pride Parade, venting their anger at Police and Corrections Minister Judith Collins.
The group No Pride in Prisons was highlighting claims of abuse of transgender inmates in New Zealand prisons.Â
Spokeswoman Emilie Rakete blames the policy of double bunking in men's jails.
"She knows, the incarceration of trans women in men's prison leads to us being raped...and she's done nothing about it."
Judith Collins said she was determined to enjoy the night.
"I actually think it's really important for everyone to just celebrate today. It's 30 years since the Homosexual Law Reform Act came through and I think we should just celebrate that."
So thrilled to be supporting @nzpolice & Dept of Corrections in today's #PrideParade pic.twitter.com/RbxjXAk18J
