A protest will be held today in the hopes of saving two trees facing the chop in Auckland, but those opposing the cull say the issue is much wider.
Developers want to de-list two large magnolias on Ponsonby Rd so awnings can be erected in their place.
The organiser of a petition and protest against the move Wendy Gray says Auckland's urban trees are priceless, aesthetically and environmentally.
"We are losing our urban trees in Auckland, we are losing them very quickly and unfortunately Auckland Council does not properly appreciate the job these trees are doing," she said."
Gray says an air quality report completely omitted them.
She's urging people to head along to 230 Ponsonby Rd at 3pm to meet the trees for themselves and see what they think.
