Wellington train commuters might not make it home for dinner as three services are temporarily out of action with Metlink warning of further delays in the coming week.
The Johnsonville, Kapiti and Melling train lines are all suspended due to an electrical fault, Metlink confirmed in a statement on Tuesday afternoon.
A team was currently on site looking at the issue but Metlink is recommending commuters consider alternative transport at this time.
Limited bus services will be available between Wellington and Petone and Wellington and Porirua.
Southbound services on the Hutt Valley Line will be terminating at Petone while southbound services on the Kapiti Line will be terminating at Porirua.
Metlink is warning there may be delays in store for the Wairarapa line as the hot temperatures increase the risk of derailment.
The Wairarapa line was particularly at risk to delays as it is only a single track, Metlink said.
