Nelson police are calling for a man who was at the scene of last week's shooting in Motueka to come forward.

Ford Hurinui was taken to hospital in a critical condition on Thursday after he was shot by police.

Now police are seeking Jahdai Brice Kennard, who was also at the scene and drove the car involved in the police chase.

During the armed standoff the 28-year-old ran away.

Overnight police had a good response from the public.

Jahdai Brice Kennard's described as tall, of medium build and Maori with a dark beard.

He's believed to be driving a green 1995 BMW saloon.
