One person has died after a crash on the Lewis Pass in Canterbury.

Policesaid emergency services tried saving the person after the crash on State Highway 7 just before 9.50pm yesterday.

“Sadly, despite efforts from emergency services, one person died at the scene,” a spokesman said.

The Serious Crash Unit did a scene examination overnight.

The Lewis Pass is one of the main mountain passes through the Southern Alps.
