New Zealand's population is growing at its fastest rate in over a decade, as more New Zealanders come back from across the ditch.

The estimated resident population grew by 87-thousand in the year to June to reach 4.6 million.

The 1.9 percent increase means our population is growing faster than Australia for the first time since 2004.

Net migration reached 58-thousand and natural increase reached 28-thousand.
